Fortunately, I had a pretty fabulous first full week in Paris! For the most part, everything is going really smoothly here and I am very much enjoying myself. So far, I have completed two projects for Rachel, both translating from French to English. In addition to this, I have been babysitting everyday and that has also been going great! Since I can walk there, I very much enjoy the fact that I have these awesome walks built into my day. Plus, there are an abundance of stairs that I have to climb to go get these kids, so it is more built in exercise and despite the fact that I have not been sleeping so well, I think that the extra exercise and being outside is helping me to feel fantastic!
One day when I was picking Max up at school, a super friendly woman said hello to me and told me that she was also from the States, but has been living here in Paris for the past twenty years! Even funnier was the fact that her name is Christine, so what an interesting synchronicity that was. She was even kind enough to take my email to send me the information of someone she knows who is looking for an English tutor. So who knows, perhaps I will have even more work!
Friday Rachel went with me to the bank to open an account, which was really fantastic of her! When I was in Spain, it was a super strange process to open an account and I had to pay in order to get it handled. So her coming with me and connecting me with her bank made the process super smooth and easy. Not only did I get to open an account, but they also offered me a small line of credit on my debit card, which I decided to take in order to build some credit outside of the United States! In addition to this, I also purchased some insurance through the bank for about 15€ a month that covers anything that could happen in my studette as well as random things that could possibly happen. Honestly, I was not planning to get insurance because I don’t really have much anymore as far as possessions and I have not had insurance since I had my apartment in Phoenix. However, Rachel explained that everyone here has insurance and that it is really important, so I took her advice!
All in all, it was a productive week and I am still extremely happy to be here! Since this is only the beginning of my Parisian adventure, I look forward to all of the other exciting opportunities that are inevitably coming my way. Really, I feel that everything is coming together!
